Description

Ideal for day hiking, mountain biking, trail running, or adventure racing, the Osprey Talon 22 pack is sleek and functional. It weighs just over 2 pounds and incorporates the fit and features necessary for fast-and-light pursuits.

An injection-molded and die-cut Airscape backpanel lends the pack flexible support and maximizes breathability for combatting heat build-up between your back and the pack body. An adjustable Biostretch hipbelt and harness are also padded with die-cut foam and covered in spacer mesh to keep weight to a minimum. Together they enhance comfort and optimize fit. The hipbelt utilizes an ErgoPull closure that draws tension along the top and the bottom of the belt to draw the pack close into your lumbar to enhance maneuverability. Accommodating hikers of varying sizes, the pack is available in Small/Medium (best fits torso lengths ranging from 17"-20") and Large/Xlarge (19"-22") size options.

The storage capacity of the Small/Medium pack is 1220 cubic inches and the Large/Xlarge has a 1343 cubic inch capacity. The pack has dual zippered access to its main storage compartment. A large front stretch shove-it pocket, side stretch woven pockets, and a top panel zippered slash pocket offer additional storage options. Large, zippered hipbelt pockets offer quick and easy access to other gear and trail essentials. Lower side compression straps enable you to cinch down the packbag to keep contents safely in place.

Other features include a Stow-on-the-Go trekking pole attachment, tuck-away ice axe attachments with bungee tie-offs, a LidLock bike helmet attachment (helmet not included), a blinker light attachment point (light not included), and a stretch mesh front harness pocket. A lined exterior compartment makes the pack hydration compatible (hydration system sold separately) and allows you to remove or refill your reservoir without having to access the interior of the pack.

This is my favorite day pack that I’ve ever owned. The small/medium size fits my 17inch torso, and the pack doesn’t bounce around when I’m running or cycling. I tighten the compression straps for a snug fit when I’m carrying minimal gear during summer day hikes, and in cold weather when I’m hiking, trail running, or nordic skiing, there is plenty of space to fit a puffy jacket. I even use this pack for ultra-minimalist overnight hikes. There’s just enough room for an ultralight stove, tarp, and food on super long days when I may need to bivy overnight. My favorite part is the location of the hydration sleeve, which makes the reservoir super accessible for quick streamside water refills, and my body heat keeps the water from freezing during sub-zero adventures.

Comfortable hipbelt and easy to organize.

Dislikes

Water bladder sleeve is very small and hard to use. Shoulder straps are just meh, and they lack loops for mounting shoulder strap pockets.

I have owned the Talon 11 for quite some time for skiing and light hikes and it has always held up like a champ. I needed a bigger pack for a few upcoming trips so I decided to keep with the same quality of Osprey and purchase the Talon 22. Much like the 11, it has handy "gadgets" for whatever I need, and a little more room that I'd been wanting. I don't use the extras for exactly what they're intended for, as I've made them "my own". The trekking pole carrier loop on the bottom is ideal for clipping a dog leash to to be hands free while hiking...my dog definitely approves as well!
