Ergonomic and ultra-bright (up to 1500 lumens!), the Petzl Nao RL delivers self-adjusting lighting and rechargeable performance for hiking, trail running, climbing, or any other demanding low light activity. By analyzing available ambient light, the headlamp's intelligent beam adjusts to maximize efficiency.
Petzl's Reactive Lighting employs an integrated light sensor that measures and analyzes reflected light, instantly and automatically adjusting the headlamp's beam pattern (wide and mixed flood/focused) and light output to your needs. Lighting adjusts automatically based on the distance of the object in front of you and it adjusts so quickly and indiscernibly that all you'll notice is that your headlamp gives you the illumination you need in varying conditions. If you're hiking or running and looking toward the ground in front of you, the beam is wide and at medium strength in order to properly illuminate obstacles in your path. When lifting your head to see further into the distance, the light output increases and becomes more focused. The lighting levels can also be locked to disable the self-adjusting feature.
The headlamp's LEDs provide a wide, uniform beam for comfortable night vision. The maximum output is 1500 lumens on the Reactive Lighting mode, or 900 lumens in the non-adjusting Constant mode. There are three light level settings, and the headlamp has a burn time of about five hours when used at the middle level on Reactive Lighting. There's also a red LED at the back that can be set on continuous or strobe modes.
The headlamp is powered by a Lithium-Ion 3200 mAh rechargeable battery (included) that sits at the back of the headband to balance out the weight. With the battery, the Nao weighs 5.1 ounces. A battery level indicator light warns you when the charge is nearly depleted. The battery uses a USB cable to recharge, and it can even be used to charge other devices if needed. An integrated reserve mode ensures that you have 10 lumens for up to 2 hours even when the indicator alerts that the battery life is low.
The headlamp is water-resistant and suitable for all-weather use. A tiltable housing enables you to aim its beam where you need it most. Ergonomically designed, the streamlined strap system has a single pull at the back for adjustment. A top strap is included (not attached) for greater stability.
The headlamp includes a storage pouch that can also fit an additional battery (sold separately) or even used to turn it into a lantern when you're back in camp.
