Description

An ultra-lightweight, packable option for warm-weather backpacking, the inflatable Sea to Summit Ether Light XT Mat offers a 4”-thick sleeping base and weighs less than a pound (Regular size)! An innovative pump sack makes inflation fast and easy.

Interconnected chambers formed by a dot-welded pattern, the pad’s unique Air Sprung Cells create a supportive sleeping base that better conforms to your sleeping body than traditional vertical or horizontal baffles.

A stand-out feature on Sea to Summit pads is the low-profile multi-function valve. A one-way design allows for fuss-free inflation and an internal button lets you make micro adjustments to firmness. A larger port beneath the top portion of the valve makes deflation quick and easy. Additionally, by setting flush to the surface of the pad, the valve also cuts down on potential warranty issues. A pump sack is built into the included stuff sack, making inflation easy and keeping moisture out of the interior of the pad.

The Sea to Summit Ether Light XT Mat is available in your choice of Regular (72" x 21.5”) and Large (78" x 25") size options.

  • 4 inches (10 cm) of cushioning

Great pad

Likes

1) This pad is incredibly lightweight for how thick and comfortable it is. I measured the size regular at 12.56 oz. on my home scale, plus 1.4 oz. for the stuff sack, which doubles as a pump sack to fill the pad with air. 2) The stuff sack which doubles as a pump sack is a really cool feature. I really appreciate pieces of gear that are multi-purpose. 3) "Regular" size backpacking pads are usually 72 inches long by 20 inches wide. This pad in size regular is actually 21.5 inches wide, and the extra 1.5 inches in width is very noticeable and much appreciated. I can actually rest my elbows on the pad while lying on my back. With 20 inch wide pads, my elbows fall off the sides of the pad, which is very uncomfortable. 4) This pad is incredibly comfortable, especially when you let some air out and allow your body to sink into the pad. The fact that this pad is so thick at 4 inches means you can let out a lot of air without hitting the ground. Most backpacking air pads aren't as thick and so you can't let out as much air without hitting the ground.

Dislikes

I wish the stuff sack/pump sack were a little bigger. I counted 7 bags full of air in the pump sack that are required to fully inflate the pad. If it were a little bigger, it'd be possible to inflate it fully with fewer bag-fuls of air. Of course, then the stuff sack/pump sack would be a little heavier, which it'd be a slight drawback.

Great Pad, Great Night's Sleep

Likes

I got this pad to replace my Nemo Astro Insulated Lite pad for summer trips. After several multi night trips with it I can say this pad definitely lives up to the hype. It rolls down small and you barely notice it in your pack. Set up and take down took no time at all. It's super easy to inflate and deflate. The included pump sack works really well, no more blowing up the pad by mouth or some sort of trail hack using some rubber hose pieces and a garbage bag. It's fairly quiet to sleep on, I was nowhere near as self conscious that my constant flopping through the night would sound like I was wrapped in one of those mylar emergency blankets. The thickness is a godsend after a long day on the trail. I'm not a light guy (5'11" 250lbs) and I'm a side sleeper which is like the sleeping pad kiss of death. My hips haven't bottomed out once while using this pad.

Dislikes

When they say the suggested use is for summer, they mean it. It has a 1.something R value and I'm pretty sure that's an exaggeration. Got caught in a couple cold and wet nights with this trying to stretch it into early fall and I paid the price. Felt every bit of that 30 degree night on my backside. This pad + quilt + early fall 30 degree night = Cranky Tired Hiker-sicle in the AM, so I would say it's not very versatile for the price. My other concern is durability. The material just feels thin. I treat this thing with kid gloves every time I use it. I'm never worried it will fail, but it's noticeably flimsier than other pads that I've had in the past so mentally I just stress over where I'm laying it and how I'm handling it. The pillow lock velcro thing is a cool concept and it does what it's supposed to for the most part, but you need a pillow that has some sort of material that the velcro can adhere to.

Ultra comfortable and light

Likes

Got this to replace my sea to summit comfort light pad. It is thicker yet lighter and packs smaller while still remaining fairly durable. Sea to summit has the best valve design on the market. Very comfortable.

Dislikes

Slight squeaky noise but not a deal breaker for me
