Description

Featuring a generous but tapered cut, the Sierra Designs Backcountry Bivy provides backpackers with a waterproof/breathable sleeping shelter that leaves ample room for a sleeping bag and a sleeping pad (both sold separately). A large mesh vent window allows a view of the stars on clear nights and enhances ventilation.

The bivy is large enough to accommodate most sleeping bags (including the award-winning Sierra Designs Backcountry Bed) and sleeping pads with room to spare. With its lightweight materials and “poleless” design, the bivy weighs less than 1 pound.

A U-shaped zipper allows easy entry and exit. Waterproof/breathable fabrics offer durable, reliable protection from the elements while still allowing air to circulate to combat condensation build-up and ensure that you can breathe easily. No-See-Um mesh at the face opening of the bivy allows you to peel back the main fabric to view the stars on clear nights and provide completely unimpeded airflow.

The 30D nylon ripstop floor has a DWR treatment to bolster weather protection. All seams are tape-sealed to further ensure waterproof construction.

The Sierra Designs Backcountry Bivy is available in Regular (80" x 36") and Long (86" x 40") size options.

  • Backcountry Bed compatible
  • Large u-shaped opening
  • Mesh window panel
  • Waterproof/breathable top fabric

Good Bivy that could easily be great if SD just made a little more effort

Likes

1. Bivy is very lightweight 2. waterproof to a degree 3. large entrance 4. zipper smooth

Dislikes

1. I test all my gear before taking it into the mountains for the 1st time. For the test I sprinkled water over the bivy for 10 minutes and then let the water pool in places for another 15 minutes; before checking for leaks. I found a very thin film of water on the inside, very thin. I do not think it would be an issue in the mountains. I was actually very pleased to not find any water pooled up inside. I think it is just the nature of the material used. I have silnylon tents from BA which function the same. 2. wish the bivy had proper loops to tie down the bivy in wind 3. wish entire bivy was made of the same top layer fabric. this would make the bivy more breathable and lighter and more versatile. for a ground sheet to protect the bivy one could just use polycro or tyvec or dyneema 4. wish zippers were water proof
