Description

Fully waterproof breathable and built specifically for the trail the Sierra Designs Men's Ultralight Trench weighs just 10 ounces and offers for hikers and backpackers extended coverage from wet or windy weather.

Offering pack-compatible 3-season protection the durable Men's Ultralight Trench keeps out rain and wind and offers high breathability. Its 20D polyester/nylon blend features a DWR (durable water repellent) treatment while the polyester backer provides next-to-skin comfort. Awning vents under the arms and additional vents at the hemline maximize airflow without sacrificing protection. The hem vents also allow for backpack hipbelts to pass through without pinching closed the jacket and inhibiting air circulation.

Other features of the Men's Ultralight Trench include a minimally-adjustable hood and two high-set hand pockets that are accessible even if you're wearing a backpack or climbing harness.

Available in a variety of size and color options the Sierra Designs Men's Pack Trench offers a trim cut that layers well over light to medium weight fleece sweaters or base layers.

  • Extra-long length protects your lap and seat from getting soaked
  • Unique hip belt vent allows your torso to vent while wearing a hip belt
  • All new awning vents allow constant air flow under the arms
  • Minimally adjustable hood with stiffened brim
  • Two zippered hand pockets that are accessible above a hip belt
  • Center front zipper with a front flap back flap and a gutter
  • Thin cuff tabs with a half elastic seal adjustment
  • Regular fit goes over light under layers
  • Waterproof breathable membrane

An awesome jacket for those less than ideal days!

Likes

As someone who prefers to hike in shorts, the extended length of this jacket is perfect, allowing me forego carrying rain pants and still keep my bottoms (mostly) dry. The hip-belt flap feature also provides great protection and prevents uncomfortable bunching of the jacket. Lastly, the material feels great against the skin, unlike most of the other ultralight jackets on the market.

Dislikes

A little heavier than some jackets on the market, although probably worth the few extra ounces when considering its features. I also don't like that the zipper is exposed when the jacket is not zipped fully. I've actually added a small piece of velcro to address this issue.

Nice and long

Likes

This rain jacket seems like it will work out very well, although I have not tried it out in the field yet. Really like the length to cover my back and front-side -- extends 14" below my waist. I plan to use this jacket with the MLD rain chaps. My size large comes in right at 11oz. Normally I'm (5'9", 170#) a medium but exchanged for a large because I wanted additional coverage over a puffy or additional layering. I like the venting on this jacket and the fabric appears substantial. Innovative design by Sierra Designs in not just copying everyone else and making the lightest rain jacket possible.

Dislikes

Only thing so far is the weight penalty (see above) but I can live with that.
