Description

A lightweight alternative to a 3-season sleeping bag, the Sierra Designs Nitro Quilt 20 Degree is open on one side in order to fully utilize your sleeping pad for under-body insulation and padding. While not for everyone, the innovative design saves weight and provides versatility.

The quilt is insulated with 800-fill DriDown water-resistant insulation. Renowned for their efficiency in retaining heat and compressible properties, the feathers and fibers of down have an incredibly soft, comfortable feel, and despite advances in synthetic materials, continue to provide the best warmth-to-weight ratio of any insulation available. The one inherent weakness of down insulation is that it loses much of its ability to maintain warmth when it gets wet; but DriDown performs differently. Employing a unique, innovative polymer application, DriDown actually creates a hydrophobic finish on each individual plume of down. This treatment results in insulation that stays dry longer and dries faster, should it become wet, than untreated down. Perhaps most impressively, this allows the insulation to retain 98% of its loft which translates into maintained warmth that untreated down bags simply cannot achieve. A 15D nylon ripstop shell further protects the insulation from the elements.

Full-length, insulated arm and hand pockets supply insulation under your arms and helps you easily create a tight, tucked-in seal around your body, as needed, or open up the quilt on warmer nights. A "hide-away" integrated hood insulates your head on colder nights, but naturally stays sealed and draft-free when not in use.

With a trail weight of just 1 pound, 9 ounces, the Sierra Designs Nitro Quilt 20 Degree fits individuals up to 6’ 3". A stuff sack and storage sack are included.

  • 800 FP Fluro-carbon free DriDown
  • 15d nylon ripstop fabric
  • Oversized design/larger size maximizes comfort and coverage
  • Full-length, insulated hand/arm pockets help to seal out drafts and seal in warmth
  • Hide-away hood provides insulation for your head when temps drop
  • EN rated/tested & proven performance

Love it

Lightweight, super warm, wide, tough shell material, no duck smell. Get it. I've used this many times outdoors (and indoors when I went to the couch in winter when I had a cold or could not sleep to not bother others). Easy grab and go item. This quilt is a steal and one of my favorites. There are no straps, but that's OK by me - particularly when using in only cool seasons or in a hammock. I usually remove pad straps from other quilts anyhow because I don't care for straps and shock cord strings dangling around my neck and legs when I'm trying to sleep. I also not generally use a quilt below about 40F when I'll switch to a full sleeping bag. So if it is going to be cooler like in the mountains, I'll add a sleeping bag liner underneath which also serves to quell drafts.

Dislikes

A slightly more noisy and stiff outer shell compared to other quilts. The colors are a bit 'loud' - though frankly, no one is noticing colors in the dark. One positive, is I've not detected any egg or duck odors, which can be very noticeable and gross on some cottage brand quilts.

Really warm quilt with awesome features. I slept comfortably in mid 30 degree weather.

A compression sack would have been nice.

Really like how comfortable this is. The face cut out is awesome keeping my face warm when needed and I love the hand spots. Awesome price as well!

Dislikes

The colors aren't my favorite but that's just me being picky

Excellent backcountry sleeping!

Likes

This bag is extremely light but has A LOT of loft. I don't even feel comfortable keeping it in the storage bag that comes with it. It's too small. Instead, I use one from an older, much larger zero-degree bag, and it fills it up. However, it compresses much smaller than any other 20-degree bag I've owned. I love that it's large enough to keep me covered while tossing and turning. Also, the hood is genius! It makes the colder nights that much warmer. Finally, because of the loft, it is WARM.

Dislikes

Too small issues: 1) The storage bag is too small. 2) I wish SD would have included a compression sack. The bag they included works well, but (for better or worse) doesn't come close to fully compressing the bag.

Stomach Sleeper

Likes

I haven't used this in the wild yet, but just received it promptly. I really think it's what will work best for me! I just don't sleep on my back very much.

Dislikes

I will edit this after regular use. Definitely need to find a proper sleeping pad!

Extremely well made

Likes

After doing much research, I believe that this quilt is the best on the market for the money. It's very roomy and the toe box is quite large. The head warmer slot is underrated.

Dislikes

The colors are not the best. But this is a minor detail.
