The lightweight, compact SteriPEN Adventurer Opti water purifier is ideal for backcountry hiking, camping trips or international travel. Utilizing the same technology used to purify water in municipal treatment facilities, hospitals and water-bottling plants, the Adventurer Opti destroys viruses, bacteria and cysts, including Giardia and Cryptosporidium, by using high-energy Ultraviolet (UV) light. The Adventurer Opti is easy to operate and purifies water quickly and efficiently without the need for chemicals or pumping.
The Adventurer Opti makes purifying water a cinch. Simply fill a 16 ounce or 32 ounce glass, plastic, ceramic or metal container with clear water, push the activation button once for 32 ounce or twice for 16 ounce, dip it in the container and stir slightly to agitate the water. Ultraviolet light is invisible to the human eye, but a visible LED light indicates that the Adventurer Opti is working and shuts off as soon as a full dose has been delivered. The Ultraviolet light breaks down the DNA of viruses, bacteria and cysts, rendering them harmless. The Adventurer Opti purifies 16 ounces of water in 48 seconds and 32 ounces in 90 seconds!
Safety features on the Adventurer Opti include an optical water sensor, temperature sensors and a fully-enclosed and insulated lamp. Together these features ensure that the Adventurer Opti works at optimal performance and its internal components remain fully functional. The bulb that indicates purification is taking place also doubles as an emergency light source, enabling the Adventurer Opti to serve as an LED flashlight.
NOTE: Because the penetration of UV light can be limited by discoloration, solids and debris, it is important that clear, unfrozen water be used. The SteriPEN FitsAll Filter or Water Bottle Pre-Filter (both sold separately) can be employed to filter particulate-filled water before UV treatment takes place.
The Adventurer Opti is powered by two CR123 batteries (included). The Adventurer Opti's electronics are designed to activate only as long as there is enough battery power available to produce the required UV dosage, so there is no risk of an inadequate dose as batteries run low.
