I use the Steripen with a Grayl Geopress Purifier Bottle. I scoop running/non-turbid water into it, use the Steripen and then press the Grayl Geopress down to have backcountry redundancy and fresh non-chemical tasting water. Getting sick from bad water on a long distance hiking trip could otherwise be a death sentence. I took this item on a 22 mile one day hike and it performed well.

I own an older model of the steripen from Katadyn. I only used it a couple times. I contacted their customer service because the device, from normal use degraded and cracked where the battery compartment was and the rubberized handle became completely gummy; it was clear they had redesigned newer units to avoid these manufacturing issues. Katadyn who has no U.S. based customer service told me I was out of warranty and offered no assistance - says a lot about their company (double thumbs down).

Small and light with pretty good battery life. Easy to use, rechargeable rcr123 batteries can be used. Enough juice to last a few day trip.

1 liter is maximum recommended water volume to purify at a time.

I bought this pen after hiking with a friend who had one. After using pumps, I was happy to use this pen. It is very light, and it takes very little effort to get your water drinkable.
Dislikes
It is not a perfect device if the water is running low, and is murky. I combine this with a mini sawyer, as a back up.
