Description

Effectively balancing price and performance, the Marmot Catalyst 2P tent provides backpackers with a roomy interior, breathability, and ease of set-up at an affordable price. Marmot even adds value by throwing in a protective footprint.

The Catalyst 2P offers 32.5 square feet of interior space and vestibules in front of each door provide more than 16 combined square feet of additional weather-protected storage space. Interior mesh pockets provide out-of-the-way storage options to maximize available floor space and enhance livability.

Three aluminum poles provide the Catalyst 2P with support and freestanding structure. Integrated clips and a pitch-enhancing sleeve for the single brow pole allow the body of the tent to attach quickly, easily, and securely to the poles. The freestanding design enables you to set up the tent and then move it around your chosen campsite to find the optimal rock-and-root-free position.

Mesh panels allow air to circulate and combat condensation while the weatherproof floor and full coverage rainfly combine to protect the interior of the tent from the elements. Taped seam construction throughout the tent bolsters weather protection. A custom-fit footprint is included to further protect the floor of the Marmot Catalyst 2P from sharp objects, mud and ground water.

Marmot Catalyst 2p Review

Likes

I bought this tent because of the space, weight (not ultralight but not too heavy either), and footprint that came at a nice price tag. However, I was disappointed with the set-up and design of the tent. The three poles are more complicated than anticipated during set-up and they felt under designed especially the brow pole; I thought I was going to tear the tent when placing it. Not a fan of the fly either. The color coded buckles are a nice feature, but the asymmetrical fly is again under designed. Fly lies very close to tent (touching in some parts) and without having vents condensation is a big issue. I used extra stakes on the fly to vent and still had a lot of condensation. Lastly, the stakes are very cheap and bend easily. I would buy studier stakes and additional guy lines for this tent.

Dislikes

Overall, the material of the tent is sturdy and durable (except the stakes). Lots of space inside. I like that it came with its own footprint, and the price was great. But the design set-up and functionality of the tent are a killer.
