Description

Another innovative offering from MSR, the TrailShot Microfilter weighs just 5.4 ounces, has a flow rate of 1 liter per minute, and effectively treats up to 2,000 liters of water. Perfect for backpacking, the filter is effective against bacteria, protozoa, and particulates.

The filter utilizes Hollow Fiber Technology to maximize flow rate while also effectively neutralizing all but the most microscopic threats (NOTE: it is not effective against viruses). A simple squeeze action draws water from the nearest available water source through an integrated hose, and passes water through the filter, allowing you to drink safely immediately and directly from the integrated nozzle of the TrailShot. The field maintainable filter is incredibly easy to clean and requires no tools. Should you use the filter frequently enough to have treated 2,000 liters, the TrailShot Replacement Filter Cartridge (sold separately) is available to fully restore the filter’s effectiveness.

The full dimensions of the MSR TrailShot Microfilter are 6” x 2.4”, allowing it to stash conveniently in your backpack.

  • Pocket-sized and light at 5.4 oz. (153 g)
  • Drink directly from the source or use to fill bottles
  • Squeezing action fills 1-liter bottles in 60 seconds
  • Easy to clean: a few shakes helps restore flow rates in the field with no tools required
  • Meets NSF Protocol P231 for removal of bacteria, protozoa and particulate
  • Treats up to 2,000 liters with one cartridge

great for backup

Likes

bought to carry on day hikes for those "oops" times when I don't have water and need it if a source is available. Haven't used it except in the kitchen sink. works good

Dislikes

none as of yet

Trail runner. This is essential gear.

Likes

Compact. Fits nicely in my running vest and is very quick and handy.

Dislikes

Not ideal for backpacking. I use the larger for MSR Miniworks for that.

Compact lightweight filter

Likes

Great filter! The flowrate is good initially but with time it decreases and it takes some time to fill up a bottle.

Dislikes

The flow rate decreases with use and does not restore fully with cleaning.

Initial impressions: fast and lightweight

Likes

- doesn't take long to fill two 650mL cycling bottles - easy to use and lightweight for bike packing

Dislikes

- none so far, but have not used extensively in field

A Must Have In The Backcountry

Likes

I've been lucky over the years that I haven't gotten sick considering some of the water sources I've refilled from. - This thing is tiny by comparison to other filters I've carried backpacking which I'd never consider carrying while running. - While it's filtration is rather high tech, it's use is quite easy and requires no special training (if my dogs had thumbs, they'd use it too). - I have to say this is just another example of the top notch gear that MSR develops.

Dislikes

I've used it a few times over this past summer of running and haven't come up with any dislikes.

The best water filtration I've used to date!!

Likes

Ease of use and maintenance. Fast and easy when you're on the go for your hikes. I only use my Sawyer mini as a backup now.

Dislikes

Filter replacement should be similar pricing to a Sawyer mini.

Quick water

Likes

Can get water out of a small area where some other filters need more water to quickly fill dirty reservoir. Light weight and relatively small

Dislikes

Can get tiresome trying to fill a large quantity of water. Pickup hose could be longer
