Description

The Sierra Designs Cloud 35 Degree sleeping bag borrows the innovative zipperless design of the award-winning Backcountry Bed but offers up a lighter weight, streamlined design that is ideal for warm-weather backpacking.

Renowned for their efficiency in retaining heat and compressible properties, the feathers and fibers of down have an incredibly soft, comfortable feel, and despite advances in synthetic materials, continue to provide the best warmth-to-weight ratio of any insulation available. The one inherent weakness of down insulation is that it loses much of its ability to maintain warmth when it gets wet, but the bag’s 800-fill DriDown performs differently. Employing a unique, innovative polymer application, DriDown actually creates a hydrophobic finish on each individual plume of down. This treatment results in insulation that stays dry longer, dries faster, and better retains its insulating qualities when wet than traditional, untreated down. A 15D nylon ripstop shell further protects the insulation from the elements.

By eliminating zippers, the bag saves weight, reduces noise, and gives you the ability to move around. An integrated front "comforter" grants access to the bag, seals efficiently to maximize warmth, and can be folded down for venting if temperatures rise. A zipperless, self-sealing foot vent allows you to extend your feet out of the bottom of the bag in balmy weather but effectively retains heat when temperatures require it. A sleeve on the bottom of the bag lets you pair it directly to a sleeping pad (pad not included) to even better create a bed-like sleeping experience.

The Sierra Designs Cloud 35 Degree sleeping bag is available in Regular (fits up to 6' 0") and Long (fits up to 6' 6") sizes. A stuff sack and storage sack are included.

  • Patent pending zipperless design
  • Oversized integrated comforter
  • Insulated shoulder pocket
  • Patented self-sealing foot vent

Like sleeping in a warm hug

Likes

When I unboxed it I couldn't believe just how light this thing really is. I'll admit that it's not as fluffy as I thought it would be so I was skeptical about it's warmth. Took this thing on an overnighter the other weekend, the temps dropped down to the mid 30's and the air had a bit of moisture in it, so I figured that this would be a great test. This bag did not disappoint. I was wearing a thin base layer top, leggings, and warm socks and was using a Nemo Astro Insulated Lite pad (3.2 R Value). As soon as I snuggled in for the night and wrapped the comforter around me I was roasty toasty. Slept straight through the night which is quite an accomplishment for me on a hike. This bag definitely strikes a great balance between a quilt and a bag. I'm a bit of a bigger guy as well as a side sleeper and I found that this bag had a ton of room in it for me to move around. I never felt restricted. I also really liked the pad sleeve, but wish it was bigger to accommodate a wide pad (admittedly I had a friend work a little magic with a sewing machine and some elastic straps to modify it to fit my pad. worked out great.)

Dislikes

There's not much not to like about this bag as far as the performance of it goes. It does everything I hoped it would and then some. If I had to nitpick I would refer to what I mentioned about the pad sleeve above. Getting in and out of it can be a bit tricky in a smaller one person tent, but I feel like that will remedy with use and experience. My last concern would be durability. As I said before it's super light and the material feels thin, not cheap, just thin. I babied the heck out this thing the night I had it out. I'm generally pretty good about taking care of my stuff, but if you're a bit rough on you gear this might not be the way to go for you.

Lots of Options

I took this bag out for 3 days a week ago and it did not let me down. Warm, roomy and so many options as you heat up or cool down.

Zipperless Mummy is the best of both worlds

Lightweight zipperless mummy is all the things you want in a Quilt and a mummy.

Dislikes

I would use this for all but the coldest winter camping.
